Windows Embedded POSReady 7 is a flexible operating system designed
to seamlessly connect Point ofService (POS) solutions with
peripherals, servers, services and the cloud.Windows Embedded POSReady
7 CTP2 brings introduces new capabilities those that were introduced
in CTP1
Including:
Footprint Minimization
In order to facilitate footprint minimization and reduction of
potential attack surface POSReady 7 supports the removal of features
from the storage media such that the product DVD is required to add
these features back to the platform, which provides an additional
layer of security to ensure features are not mistakenly enabled. This
is in contrast with Windows 7 which has the ability to Enable or
Disable functionality on the fly without requiring media. In order to
fully support the removal of bits from the storage media, POSReady 7
uses the command utility DISM.EXE rather than Enable and Disable
Windows Features in the Control panel.
Shell Launcher
Shell Launcher enables you to replace the Explorer shell with a
custom shell. Shell Launcher enables you to concentrate on your custom
shell application while Shell Launcher handles issues such as
executing the Run and RunOnce registry keys and restarting the custom
shell if it crashes.
Display Languages
POSReady 7 CTP2 provides support for multiple display languages
through the Language Pack DVD. You may have up to 5 languages
installed at once and switch between them via Control Panel - Regional
Settings.
Media Decoders
POSReady 7 CTP 2 has included media decoders to improve media
playback experience. It is important to note that media decoders may
require additional licensing. Additional licensing information will be
available through the sales channels soon. Media decoders may be
removed from the system if not required or to eliminate the additional
licensing requirement.
Write Filter Management Tools
POSReady 7 CTP 2 has new Write Filter Management Tools that provide
a UI as well as WMI providers to managing the Write Filters. Write
Filters have been removed from the base image,
however they are provided on the DVD so that they can be added into
the runtime when they are desired. The Write Filter
Packages consist of:
