Windows 10 build 9901 comes with several changes over version 9988 and 9879 (the latter being available to all Windows Insider Program users through the official channels), but the biggest addition is undoubtedly a working version of Cortana. The personal assistant Cortana, which continues to be available exclusively on Windows Phone 8.1, is set to make its debut on the desktop with Windows 10, and build number 9901 is the first version that comes with a working flavor of this feature.References to Cortana's implementation in Windows 10 were available since version 9860, but those who download and install today's leaked build can actually see what the personal assistant can do on the desktop as well.
New apps and improved UI
One of the biggest changes in build 9901 is the addition of a search box implemented right into the taskbar, that allows users to search the web and Windows without actually opening any other window. As you can see in the photo gallery, this particular feature might come in really unhandy because it takes up too much space on the taskbar, so many users would most likely turn it off.
Of course, this is probably just the first implementation of a new search feature which is very likely to be more polished in future updates in order to better work with Cortana, but it's a sign that such functionality will definitely be there in the final version of Windows 10.The settings screen has also received new updates and now allows users to access more options right in the Modern UI, which make some wonder whether the company is ready to kill the desktop Control Panel for good this time.At the same time, build 9901 also includes a new Remind Me app, which was already included in older releases, as well as a Getting Started screen that guides users throughout the operating system. As usual, we won't provide you with any , but it shouldn't be too difficult to find this build online if you know where to look.Microsoft won't offer any kind of support for this particular build either, so use it at your own risk if you really want to find out what's inside, but do not complain about bugs and performance issues because these are something to be expected this time.
